Job Summary
Patient Transporter
Facilitating the movement of patients among the hospital
Summary: Responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate transportation of patients, medical equipment, and patient-related items to their destination.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Properly and safely transports patients, secures IVs, drainage tubes, etc., and secures the patient.
• Consistent with patient transportation, uses wheelchairs and other approved rolling stock to perform essential job duties.
• Demonstrates competence in transporting all defined age groups.
• Provides safe, timely, and accurate transportation of patients to their destination using the proper equipment requested.
• Communicates effectively with nursing staff, clinicians, technicians, or pick-up and drop-off services.
• Provides patient comfort while being considerate. Offers blankets, checks modesty, and engages only in appropriate conversation with patients. Never transports patients with severe pain.
• Alert medical staff immediately of any signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction.
• Maintain equipment and report equipment in need of repair.
• Complies with regulatory standards including federal, state, and JCAHO.
• Adheres to the facility's privacy and patient rights policy as set out in the facility's HIPPA policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
