Pay Range:
Starting at $15 per hour, based on experience.
Position Summary:
In accordance with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA Middle Tennessee, and in collaboration with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Director of Aquatics, the Swim Team Coach is responsible for training, guiding, supervising, monitoring, safety of all members of the swim team, and communicate with parents. . The swim team coach is responsible for the appearance, presentation, and functionality of all equipment used by the swim team. It is the responsibility of the swim team coach to supervise and guide all members of the swim team and provide feedback and appropriate corrections as directed or included in the job description.
Principal functions:
• Model the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
• Provide a safe and risk-free environment at all times while meeting the individual needs of the participants.
• Report to work on time, in uniform, and at the location where the shift begins.
• Upon arrival, check the area for hazardous conditions; prevent accidents and avoid dangerous situations; report any problems to the lifeguard on duty
• Know, follow, and enforce all rules and policies of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee.
• Ensure proper and timely setup and cleanup before and after class, and store all study equipment in the proper places.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Hy-Tek software (Team/Meet Manager), Team Unify and good oral and written communication is required.
• Recruit and supervise parent volunteers to organize, host, administer, and conduct swim meets and provide assistance to classes as needed.
• Practice all activities in accordance with the rules and guidelines established by the YMCA of Middle Tennessee.
• Attend all home and away swimming meets; complete all required documents and forms for each swim meet
• Constant attention to swim team members - communication is prohibited; do not leave participants unattended
• Provide verbal feedback to each participant consistently throughout each session; Communicate regularly with each participant and/or the participant's parents about the participant's performance, progress, goals, and needs.
• Complete all required records and reports, including rosters, attendance records, and accident/incident reports.
• Build relationships and interact with members
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
Minimum Requirements:
Passion, enthusiasm and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA
An enthusiastic person with a desire to serve members, volunteers, guests, members and staff to create a culture of service in our centers.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds.
• Must have a professional image and conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate common sense and initiative.
• Must be able to maintain the confidentiality of information
• Ability to paintings bendy hours, inclusive of nights and weekends
• Minimum 18 years
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Experience in coaching and team management preferred.
• Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in all four competitive strokes.
Required Certificates:
• Before the start of the 1st shift: Introductory briefing for new employees
• Before the first shift: basic life support, first aid and emergency oxygen
• Within 90 days of hire: YMCA Swimming and Diving Competition Principles.
• Within one year, complete USA Swim Coaching membership requirements.
