Family system in the West | Part 7 |
Blended Family
Mixed or mixed family consists of mixed parents and children. That is, one or both of the parents get married and both of them have children which they raise together. A mixed family is also called a step family. According to sociologists, there are two types, conventional and non-conventional. Traditional families are in the middle class where the father earns and the mother takes care of the house while in non-traditional families the mother earns and the father takes care of the house and the custom in America is unconventional. The term conventional is used to refer to the extended family, not the conventional term for the nuclear family. The term nuclear family became common in the United States between 1960 and 1970 when foreigners from Asia and Europe entered the United States. While in England the idea was already there.
The effects of a mixed family system are felt in children of all ages. Some children are soon reunited with their new family, while others have struggled to find a place in the family. Extensive family relationships are the process by which one member of the family maintains relationships with another. One method of communication is the traditional way in which there is no disagreement on beliefs and values and the other is the way of conformity in which families have the right to disagree about beliefs and values.
According to the 2004 US Census Report, 42% of young people have stepchildren, and 30% of young people have a stepbrother. About 60% of African Americans have stepchildren, while 45% have half-siblings. According to statistics, 92% of dead men and women remarried at the age of 50, while 43% of marriages resulted in divorce within 15 years.
According to a survey by a research journal, 25% of men and women who were around 50 years old got married twice or more. 42% remarried their first spouse. 75% had second marriages, of which 65% had their first children. 60% are such people
Those who remarried and divorced again. 15% of couples divorce within three years of marriage, 25% of couples divorce within 5 years and 39% of couples divorce within 10 years. According to government figures so far, the census includes families with children. If the child is living with a divorced, individual heir or non-citizen who remarries, then the child is not registered as a member of that family.
The biggest reason for the formation of mixed, mixed or step family is the increasing rate of divorce. It is clear from the census report and the survey report that, after divorce, a mixed family system is finally emerging in the form of second marriages.
Extended Family
Extensive family that is larger than the individual family which includes parents, children, husband's siblings and their children who live in the same family. That is, after marriage, the husband or wife lives together with the in-laws. Sometimes close relatives live in a large family. For example, an elderly relative who lives with them because of their age. In modern Western culture, the term "domination of close family" is used. The term is commonly used for grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins. However, this family is considered as a unit.
In some cultures, the term "consanguineous family" is also used. Typically such a family system exists in the countries of South Asia, Central Asia, Eastern Europe, Southern Europe, Latin America and is present in India in the form of traditional family. There are large families in England. In the United States, 2.6 million families are under the extended family system. In the US state of Mexico, three generations live together in a large family.
Matrifocal Family
In a family that includes mothers and children, these children are usually her biological offspring, but now in almost all societies foster children are also common. This type of family is found where women have all the resources to provide for their children, their husbands mostly stay out of the house and occasionally go home. Husbands have a secondary status in the home. It is not necessary for the mother of the children to be the father of the father. The daily routine of life is managed by a woman. The mother-headed family is present in various cities and states of the West.
This family system is commonly found in the Afro-Caribbean islands. Bethnal Green in London has had this family system since 1950. There is a Misikitu race in Central America and a maternal head family in the state of Honduras.
