In collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the issued Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), all Early Childhood Services Division (ECSD) employees must:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under the supervision of the site superintendent and the assigned teacher, the associate teacher is responsible for meeting the US Department of Health and Human Services "Advanced Start Performance Standards" guidelines for early childhood education services. early childhood along with state licensing standards.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provides a safe and healthy environment that meets Head Start/Early Head Start performance standards.

• Together with the teacher, implement elements of an inquiry-based curriculum by providing an engaging learning experience that encourages decision-making, cultural awareness, and exploration.

• In collaboration with the classroom teacher, make adjustments to the interior and exterior of the classroom to reflect the individual needs and goals of the children.

• Works with the teacher to ensure children are actively supervised at all times.

• Works with the teacher to plan, organize, and fulfill the responsibilities of input work.

• Conduct a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment of each child, including daily/weekly observations in each area of ​​development, samples of the child's work, and developmental assessments that are conducted On an ongoing foundation all through this system year.

• Participate in weekly planning meetings with your teacher.

• Plans and conducts at least two home visits and two parent-teacher conferences per year with the teacher.

• Work with the teacher educator to develop individual goals for children based on assessment results, school readiness goals, state standards, Head Strat B-5 Early Learning Outcomes Framework, child's ISP/ICP, and in collaboration. With parents.

• In cooperation with the teacher, complete and submit required forms and records, such as lesson plans, nutrition reports, etc., in a timely and accurate manner.

• Offer ongoing opportunities for parents to participate in weekly lesson plans.

• Eats with children and provides appropriate social discussion and self-help skills at mealtimes.

• Assess all children for forty-five (45) days during the program year. Provide follow-up evaluations and/or referrals as needed.

• Maintains and reports accurate daily attendance and meal amounts at the facility.

• Identifies and reports potential cases of child abuse to the appropriate staff member.

• Participates in meetings with children and families with prepared notes of observations and assessments of children.

• Participate in daily team meetings and share information with class and center staff.

• Apply appropriate behavioral guidance methods.

Requirements:

• This position requires an associate's degree, a minimum of 36 college credit hours in early childhood education or a related field if a degree in an unrelated field is required. All degrees must be obtained from a regionally accredited educational institution approved by the US Department of Education.

• A minimum of one (1) year of experience working with young children and families in a child care setting is required; Two (2) years or older is preferred.

• Be at least nineteen (19) years of age.

• Ability to talk fluently in English, each orally and in writing. The ability to communicate fluently in Spanish, both orally and in writing, is a plus but not a requirement.

• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective learning strategies, classroom management, assessment and diagnosis of learning, and research related to English language acquisition.

• Demonstrate skills and competencies to match staff qualifications as required by Part 407: Kindergarten Licensing Standards.

• Earn and maintain at least an Illinois Gateway Level 3 ECE Credential Level 3 certification for 2 years of service.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and constructively with people of all races, cultures, family systems, and social strata.

• Ability to use Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Teams.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Pass a complete medical exam, physical and tuberculosis (TB) test.
